‘Maclamp’, c1955.

Designed by Sir Terence Conran for Habitat, London.

Newly graduated from design school, Conran worked on the Festival of Britain (1951) before becoming a freelance designer. He designed the Maclamp in the late 50’s, later retailing it through Habitat. This beautifully designed lamp, while constructivist and austere in its leanings, still manages to be an elegant object. The Maclamp continued to be a staple of British Mid-Century design for over two decades. This version is from the 1960’s.

Rewired, but retaining its original fittings.

40cm (h; adjustable) x 12cm (d).
